EXPOSE BIG PORN

NEWSFLASH: New ‘Expose Big Porn’ report launched 14 July 2021. Read it here

Over the past 20 years, a vast, global porn industry has sprung up online. Known as “Big Porn”, it is dominated by a few massive tech companies that largely evade scrutiny and regulation.

Make no mistake, Big Porn is neither naive nor neutral. Free from oversight, these online porn platforms have amassed huge profits from videos of real rape, abuse and other non-consensual sex acts.

Younger generations are growing up in a hypersexualised culture which is being profoundly shaped by violent, racist, misogynistic online porn. Why? Because the porn industry has been given a free pass from regulation and accountability. Until now.

The commercial online porn industry’s business model and algorithms are driven by profit, facilitating the mass distribution of extreme illegal content, including child sexual abuse material, real rape and private sexual videos posted without consent… Big Porn is virtually unregulated and unaccountable to any government in the world.

Vanessa Morse, CEO

In our report we:

  • Expose the reality of a predatory online pornography industry that consistently puts profit over people.
  • Publish results of a new public survey showing that the vast majority of the UK public would support strict laws to regulate the power of Big Porn.
  • Highlight the UK Government’s failure to get to grips with Big Porn in the upcoming Online Safety Bill
  • Recommend 3 urgent amendments to the Online Safety Bill, to stem the tidal wave of illegal and harmful material on porn sites and to protect children from harm.

Findings of our Public Attitudes Survey on Online Pornography, June 2021

The survey was conducted among 1,000 people over 18 living in the UK in June 2021. The interviews were conducted online by Sapio Research in June 2021 using an email invitation and an online survey.
